I actually posted this on a wonderful Pitbull Site I belong to. I am cross-posting here because I feel it is so important. I, myself am guilty of not doing engough. I am commiting myself to try and do more for the fight against BSL. Even if you are not a pitbull owner. PLEASE, think about it. Pitbull World provides many links and information on BSL. Stop by and join or just read. Here what I wrote:
With all the BSL going on Kansas City right now it has me thinking alot. And it scares me. I belong to a website for KC Dog owners discussing Indepdence’s descion to ban pit bulls reccently. Connie Hill, the lady whose husband was attacked, has said that she plans to take the breed ban state wide and fight for it. All pit bulls banned in Missouri completely.
Now as most of you know here, I don’t own a pitbull, so at the moment this does not effect me. People I know keep saying to me “Why do you care so much? Charlie is a boxer and Coco is lab, this is not YOUR problem.”

Well, it is. What I wish people that fight so hard for these breed bans would understand, you are NOT solving the problem, the real root, when banning breeds. Because now that pitbulls are illegal, they will just choose other dog. Those that shouldn’t be owning a dog. PERIOD. Animal abuse, fighting, breeding for aggression will continue, just with their new breed of choice. Mastiff?? Boxer?? German Shepards?? Step up, whose next? It will be a never-ending cycle. And where will it stop? Are we going to ban all large breeds? Thats what I am afraid of. And thats what scares me.

If you own a DOG this fight is important. How many people voting FOR breed bans own dogs? Do they really understand what they are doing? In essence they are voting AGAINST their dog. Maybe not today or tomorrow but IMO thats were its heading.

In fact as I wrote this I was reading some of the other posts…..Dog Fatally Mauls Dade resident

“For the second time in two weeks, a dog has fatally mauled a South Florida resident. Pablo Fleites, 56, was found dead Monday night inside a dog pen occupied by two boxers

And again how does this not effect me? Or any of us for that matter, whether you own a lab or pitbull. It will effect you, don’t wait until it does. Really its time, we as dog owners step up to the plate.

This is a poem that is near to me. I found it just after rescuing Charlie……

I would’ve died that day if not for you.
I would’ve given up on life if not for your kind eyes.
I would’ve used my teeth in fear if not for your gentle hands.
I would have left this life believing that all humans don’t care
Believing there is no such thing as fur that isn’t matted,
skin that isn’t flea bitten, good food and enough of it, beds to sleep on,
someone to love me, to show me I deserve love just because I exist.
Your kind eyes, your loving smile, your gentle hands
Your big heart saved me…
You saved me from the terror of the pound,
Soothing away the memories of my old life.
You have taught me what it means to be loved.
I have seen you do the same for other dogs like me.
I have heard you ask yourself in times of despair
Why you do it
When there is no more money, no more room, no more homes
You open your heart a little bigger, stretch the money a little tighter
Make just a little more room…to save one more like me.
I tell you with the gratitude and love that shines in my eyes
In the best way I know how
Reminding you why you go on trying.
I am the reason
The dogs before me are the reason
As are the ones who come after.
Our lives would’ve been wasted, our love never given
We would die if not for you.

I decided to make this post private because it is, as my post states, extremely powerful and triggering. Not for everyone. It may be hard for some to read and offend others. My believe in spaying and neutering is very close to my heart after rescuing Charlie and Coco from their very sad stitutions.
I will tell you bit about the post though and you may email me……aroundtowndesign@gmail.com  and I will provide the password to read further. It comes from a website called Craigslist and was actually posted on Pitbull World by a member. It was created by an animal control officer himself who his burdened everyday with the job of killing so many unwanted animals.
Its a hard read, I’ll warn you. You’ll cry. But oh my…..it needs to be said.

I occascionally check my Search Engine Terms and what brings people to my website.
Most days I do find myself laughing when things such as this come up…..”
coco naked”, “pictures of 3 legged snakes” “Stinky Town” and few other amusing ones.
Today I found myself disappointed. The #1 search for my blog was “Pitbull puppies for sale just in Kansas”
I found myself wondering if they know how many pitbulls NEED homes right now. Not only in the KC area but everywhere. Why would we want to bring more into the world?
For those searching for pitbulls for sale in Kansas……Here visit this website http://www.mprgroup.net/. Pitbull rescue. Make sure you visit this link too…..the dogs.
And think about it.

We had a wonderful weekend. It was very "Kansas City" and I am so happy it worked out the way it did!
We got into Kansas City about 2:00 Saturday and picked up our entry packets. Me and Coco then headed to Grandma's (Mims, or whoever you know her as!!) and spent some time with her. We went to Petsmart, Panera!! and Hobby Lobby. Now you think "Hobby Lobby?" Yes, we had decided to enter Coco in the costume contest and make her a bee! We need spray paint, piper cleaners, panty hose, wire hangers and some fuzzy black balls for her transformation! She already had a bright yellow life jacket. You see the bee coming together?
We went home and worked on the bee costume for a bit while Joe (my brother) was picking up Valerie (his girlfriend) at the airport. Cario, you would like her because she is from California too!!
When they got home we went to the BEST italian food in town! Villa Capri. Mmmmm…manicotti, bread and salad. Ok…..very Kansas City.
After getting home we "planned" to walk. The weather had other ideas!! In the middle of our walk it started pouring down rain! I mean a HUGE storm!! We got home and sat on the screened in porch and watched the storm. Also very Kansas City!
It cleared up just in time for the walk in the morning and we had a WONDERFUL time! Coco entered the contest but didn't win (She should have!!), we walked our 2 mile in 24 mintues and got some awesome pictures! After the walk we took Coco to The Classic Cup and ate brunch, which was really good too. And yes it is a restaurant that allows dogs on the patio to eat.
We planned to go to Shawnee Mission Park for a swim but because of the rain it was too muddy and we were just to tired. We did take Coco to another little park and let her dream about water and chase ducks.
Coco is very tired, as is her Mommy, so we are off to bed. I think she is there waiting for me. Here are a few pictures but also please check our flicker site too. Many, MANY pictures there too!
